Somerton Kebab and Café is a Turkish fast food restaurant in Melbourne city and serve amazing snacks and meals. It was my first experience a Turkish cuisine in Melbourne and I must say that it was definitely a pleasant one. I am vegetarian and therefore have limited choices. Yet, the restaurant had quite a few dishes on their menu for people like us (Quite considerateJ). I ordered a falafel roll which is basically cutlets made of chickpea rolled into Turkish bread with salad, hummus and sauces to make it taste rich. One thing very distinct about Turkish food is sesame seeds. The picture shows how well they garnish all their food with it and makes it look amazing. We also ordered what they called Turkish Pizzas, one was stuffed with potatoes and the other has cheese. A vegetarian dish which was served hot, fresh out of the oven and good to eat.
The dish ordered by my husband and friends was a non-vegetarian Turkish delicacy called shawarma. But here it was served in a different style that is not served in a roll instead served in a plate with dips and Turkish bread to go along with it separately. As per the reviews it tastes damn good!
I have a sweet tooth and my meals usually don’t end without sweet dishes and what can I say I have a very soft corner for Baklava’s being brought up in UAE and I quite liked that as well here.
Overall, experience was good and I will definitely recommend someone who liked Turkish cuisine to go and try the stuff at Somerton Kebab and Café.
